Overview of Topics, Statements, and Links

A general-purpose structure for playing with ideas

Playpens are composed of two kinds of ‘concepts’ – topics and statements, and links.

Together, topics and links serve as a powerful form of hashtag. They tend to be both short (so easy to search), and to be the glue for building complex ideas.

Concepts can have a type, which is useful not only for limiting possible ambiguity, but also to use in more powerful searches.

Topics

Short; preferably one but maybe two to three words naming a topic.

Statements

A longer passage that says something in relation to a topic, whether or not that topic is explicitly linked.

Links

Shows the way in which two concepts are connected. The relationship between the two concepts may be mutual or one way. When setting how two concepts are connected, some common relationships are suggested as options, but you should ultimately pick what makes the most sense for your ideas.
